Formed in January 2007 in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Ryuta Yamamura (vocals), Issei Sakai (guitar), and Genki Nigawa (bass) were originally a guitar duo, but later Seiji Ogura (drums) joined them through an introduction, thus forming flumpool.
On October 1, 2008, they released the mobile download-only single "幻化成花" (Hana-tachi no Hana), which was chosen as the theme song for the au "LISMO" advertisement, thus officially debuting. The single surpassed 1 million downloads within 10 days of its release (and has now reached 2 million downloads), generating considerable buzz. Following this, on November 5, they released their second download single, "Over the rain ~光光之桥~" (Hashiro no Hashi~), which gained attention as the theme song for the TBS television drama "Genius Hacker F".
Then, on November 19, they released their debut mini-album "Unreal," which debuted at number 2 on the Oricon Weekly Albums Chart and reached number 1 as a newcomer debuting in 2008.
On February 19, 2009, they began their nationwide concert tour, "flumpool tour 2009 "Unreal"" (7 shows in 6 cities and prefectures). The pre-selection lottery on the official website garnered 100,000 applications. Their debut single, "Wish Upon a Star," released on February 25, 2009, debuted at number 2 on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart despite minimal promotion. Following this, their single "MW ~Dear Mr.&Ms. Picaresque~ / Summer Dive," released on July 1, also debuted at number 3 on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart. On the same day, their first Live DVD, "How did we feel then?" ~flumpool tour 2009 "Unreal" Live at Shibuya Club Quattro~," reached number 1 on the DVD charts. Furthermore, her first nationwide tour, "flumpool tour 2009 "Unclose," which began on July 8th and included 19 performances in 18 prefectures and cities across the country, sold out quickly upon release. In the summer, she participated in numerous well-known music events, such as "ROCK IN JAPAN Fes. 2009" and "SWEET LOVE SHOWER 2009." The additional performances at the Nippon Budokan on October 22nd and 23rd also sold out on the day of release. Then, her highly anticipated first full-length album, "What's flumpool!?", was released on December 23rd. The album debuted at number 2 on the Oricon weekly album chart. On December 31st of the same year, she was invited to perform for the first time at the 60th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen (Red and White Song Battle).
On February 3, 2010, they released the single "Remnant Image," followed by their second live DVD, "flumpool tour 2009 'Unclose' Special!! LIVE at Nippon Budokan," on February 24. The single debuted at number 3 on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart, while the DVD reached number 1 on the music DVD chart for the second consecutive week. Then, starting March 5, they embarked on their largest-ever nationwide tour, "flumpool tour 2010 'What's flumpool!? ~Love & Piiiiss Kids Show!!~'," with 46 shows across 40 locations, moving and exciting fans across the country.
After the tour concluded, lead vocalist Ryuta Yamamura underwent surgery for vocal cord nodules. On June 23, they released the single "reboot ~不放弃的歌~ / 流星," which again debuted at number 2 on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart. In addition, on September 29th, she released the single "I Only Want to Tell You," based on the theme song of the Toho film series "I Only Want to Tell You." It reached number 2 on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart, marking the successful debut of all her singles to reach the top 3. At the end of December, she announced two-day concerts at Osaka-jo Hall and Yokohama Arena, with tickets selling out on the first day and the concerts being a great success. On December 31st, she was invited to perform at the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen for the second consecutive year.
On January 26, 2011, they released their highly anticipated second album, *Fantasia of Life Stripe*, which topped the Oricon Weekly Album Chart for the third consecutive year. On April 6, they released their 3rd Live DVD, *flumpool Live at YOKOHAMA ARENA!! Special Live 2010 Snowy Nights Serenade ~I Want to Connect with You Heart to Heart~*, and on April 9, they began their fourth national tour, *4th tour 2011 "Fantasia of Life Stripe ~I'm Here~*. Following this, on July 27, they released the single "Touch," and on September 7, they released "Shin," the designated song for the 78th NHK National School Music Competition for junior high schools and also the theme song for an NHK program. This song was sung by over one million junior high school students nationwide, creating a huge buzz. Following this, a new single, "Present," was released on December 7th. On December 10th and 11th, the "Special Live 2011 'Present ~Thanksgiving Festival! Let's Sing Tonight!! Let's Dance!~'" concert was held at Saitama SUPER ARENA, attracting an enthusiastic audience of 32,000. Then, on December 31st, they were invited to participate in the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen for the third consecutive year.
Starting in March 2012, they embarked on the largest-ever nationwide tour, "5th tour 'Because... I am'", with 52 shows across 42 venues. Over the six months leading up to September,
approximately 100,000 people participated. Furthermore, in July, the tour's theme song, "Because... I am," gained attention after becoming the theme song for the TBS drama "Resident ~5 Intern Doctors." Following the release of the single "Answer," they released their first new album in two years, "experience," in December.
In January 2013, they held a 4-day concert at Yokohama Arena and Osaka-jo Hall Arena. The overwhelming performance attracted 40,000 audience members. In March, they released a CD in Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and held their first solo concert in Taiwan. Not only was the live concert great, but the Chinese MC throughout the concert also received a tremendous response. In addition, in July, they released the Double A Side Single "I Can't See Something More Important Than You / Slightly Warm Refrain".
On October 1st and 2nd, their 5th anniversary, they will hold the "5th Anniversary Special 2-Day Live "For our 1,826 days & your 43,824 hours" at the Nippon Budokan. Since performing together at a concert in Taiwan in 2011, they have developed a close friendship with the super popular rock band "Mayday" in the Chinese-speaking world, and they have collaborated for the first time on the song "Belief ~Waiting for Spring You~", which will be the theme song for the movie "Ashin" which will be released in October.
